Work Break

Along the Elbe on the A-road 172 there lies a shipyard behind thick forest, in 1993 it was suddenly closed. The employees all left their workstations as if it was lunch break and the yard freezes into a time-bubble.

In this quiet world the pictures are frozen, and only the wind in the trees and the traffic off in the distance reveal the passage of time. Fragments of the sounds of labour remind us of the craft practised here, of the skills and knowledge.

„Work Break“ and “Bomb Threat” are the first two films of the long-term thematic shorts series Standstill.
