Welcome to the monthly film series with short films and background stories from over 20 years of our production activity. In February we present THE BEST FILM OF THE WORLD.
Anonymous sent a mountain of video tapes from his remote South Sea island to Michael Krause and Peter Roloff in 1996, endless hours of interviews with people from the media industry. This resulted in a condensate of 3 minutes and 12 seconds. Theme: The bad state of German film. Mood: The others are to blame. Premiere: Berlinale – Berlin International Film Festival in February 1997.
And then a bad surprise: THE BEST FILM OF THE WORLD was programmed along the awarding of the honorary Berlinale Camera to actor Armin Müller-Stahl and the world premiere of his directorial debut “Conversation with a Beast”. But rumors were circulating that Stahl’s film would flop and so the Berlinale decided to cancel Anonymous’ satirical contribution THE BEST FILM OF THE WORLD at the award ceremony. Reason: the film is too long, that is beyond the scope of the event. Reminder: 3 min. 12 sec.
Anonymous’ helpers threatened with “measures”, the Berlinale responded. THE BEST FILM OF THE WORLD was shown.
